5 Things You Should Know About Electrical Storeroom Management.
Electrical storerooms have been getting a lot of attention the last few years, and for good reason. For many of our customers, the electrical storeroom is both a significant expense and a big contributor to keeping the process running efficiently. Having the right parts, at the right time and place, including accessories and tools can mean the difference between making a repair quickly, or waiting for days while the needed part is delivered.
Optimizing storerooms for greater efficiency and productivity is the key – from the parts on the shelf to the processes that govern its operation, which includes access to and location of parts. And that means relentless attention to overall costs and to issues like min/max levels, stock-out conditions, order completions and guaranteed pricing, to name a few of the details customers tell us are important. Controlling costs and availability of critical parts is always challenging, but with programs such as ERS (Electronic Repair Services), PMAs (Parts Management Agreements) and part-for-part substitutions, the well run storeroom can be equipped to address a variety of issues.
Aging plant infrastructure puts additional emphasis on having the right parts in the right place at the right time – whether that’s on a storeroom shelf, or at an easily accessed off site location. Cost control is essential. Do you know what your MRO costs are, or what they should be? Cost reduction is a large part of the story, but not all of it. We see storerooms that are actually increasing SKUs and unit counts while managing to defined overall inventory levels.
Do you have a handle on the ability of your storeroom to minimize machine downtime? Even in plants that have had storeroom programs in place for years, changes can mandate a re-assessment of the storeroom. Machines are updated, parts become obsolete, and code changes necessitate new procedures.
