One of the main issues with unmanaged switches (UM) are that they pose Security Risk. Open ports on the UM allow visitors, contractors, and even plant floor employees can easily plug into one of these switches when physically accessible. This can lead to an entry point and injecting or spreading of viruses within your network. A managed switch allows for disabling of unused ports to prevent unauthorized access.
